Bicycle Culture and the Development of Young Athletes
The bicycle is not only a sporting tool, but also a powerful educational and social one. This was one of the key themes that emerged during the conference “Bicycle Culture: Sport, Sustainability and the Right to Safety”, organized by the OdG Lombardia (Lombardy Order of Journalists) with the support of SACBO and hosted at the Sala Mura Venete in Bergamo.
The event brought together communication professionals, institutions and industry experts to discuss the role of sustainable mobility and cycling culture in contemporary society. Among the speakers was Stefano Maldifassi, founder of High Performance Method and President of Lince Sport, who focused on the development and education of the next generation of athletes.
Drawing on his extensive field experience, Maldifassi highlighted some of the main challenges facing young athletes today. He emphasized the importance of balanced physical development and long-term planning that considers the different stages of personal growth before athletic performance.
During his speech, he explained how cycling can become a valuable environment for learning and personal development, provided it is part of a structured educational pathway that respects each young athlete’s pace of maturation and supports their overall growth, both physically and personally.
This philosophy has long been at the core of High Performance Method’s work, placing individual potential at the center through science-based methodologies and a multidisciplinary approach to athletic preparation.
Moderated by journalist Pier Augusto Stagi, the conference also explored topics such as sustainability, road safety and the evolution of cycling culture, reinforcing the increasingly strategic role of the bicycle as a tool for inclusion and growth for future generations.
